QUESTIONS ABOUT WORKSHOPS

  • There are various types of resin, and yes, some of them are quite toxic. Those are the ones that are used in an industrial setting or for industrial use, like for finishing boats, floors and countertops. In those cases, the resin off-gassing process releases toxins that with long-term exposure, can be very toxic. They also smell terrible which is a great way to know that it’s best to use a heavy duty mask when pouring.

In my workshops, I only use Art Resin. This is a brand that is made specifically for making arts and crafts, and is widely used all over the world with great success and no reported health reactions. It is almost completely non-toxic and has a very low odor, with low VOC levels. When we work with it in the workshops, the only time it emits an odor is right when I mix the 2 components and that small is barely noticeable. We also use gloves to protect our hands.

  • All supplies are provided for the workshop, however, if you have a favorite acrylic paint, alcohol ink or compatible medium that you want to bring, feel free. The only thing I do ask that you bring is a lunch, a vessel for water, or a beverage, and clothes that you don’t have to worry about, if they get messy. I’ll take care of the rest!

  • The workshop space is located Victoria, BC. It’s a very convenient location and there is plenty of 2-hour parking right outside the building. However, my workshops are normally 4 hours per day so I advise that you use a paid lot, or get a ride/drop-off, so that you don’t have to leave midway to move your car. You can also use the Park Victoria App to update your parking as the class goes.

  • You don’t need any experience making art to attend or enjoy the workshop. We cover everything you need to create beautiful, interesting work with nothing but our imagination, great materials, my demonstrations and guidance, and your willingness to be creative. The rest comes on its own! I have never had a student who was not happy with their artwork, ever. Even the ones who have not made art since childhood.
